As the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine
at Benadir University, I would like to share my commitment to provide our student
with superior education and learning environment. I am personally committed to the
success of individual student.
Our teachers and professors are noted for their education
to students, their excellent teaching, their clinical experience and their scholarly
activities to remain at the cutting edge of their field.
We aim to teach our students to marry rigorous scientific knowledge and humane,
compassionate care. And we have succeeded. Our graduates are distinguished not only
by their exemplary patient care but also by their remarkable academic achievements.
Through the years, Benadir University college of Medicine has created many innovative
and influential programs in medical education. For example, Benadir was a pioneer
in combining traditional teaching methods with Problem-Based Learning, which focuses
on self-directed learning and the development of active inquiry and critical reasoning
skills. We also have developed a unique cadre of combined-degree programs.
We have established a Center for Learning with goal to promote quality
and consistency for all Benadir educational activities. The center may act as a catalyst
for curricular innovation, evaluation and research at all levels of medical training.
We are here to pass to the next generation of knowledge, skills, and attitudes the
word Doctor means teacher. As doctors, we teach
our patients, we teach our students, we teach our colleagues, we teach the public.
Our web site (www.benadiruniversity.net), hosts more than 3/4 of the
didactic material of the first two academic years, termed by our last accreditation evaluators
as "unique and powerful educational
resource" Just recently, Benadir won a national
award for its innovative programs.
In the late 2007's, the Institution planned
to establish a joint department of Family Medicine and Community Health in recognition
of the national need to produce more primary care physicians.
The Faculty of Medicine at Benadir University is noted for its teaching
ability, and for its excellence in patient care and research, the faculty is
involved in undergraduate medical education, and in the future we plan graduate
and postgraduate as well as many specialized programs of national and international
prominence.
Benadir University remains committed to its long-standing goal of producing the
generalists of tomorrow as well as specialists who will handle and investigate more complex
medical problems.
Successful completion
of our program enables Benadir graduates to obtain outstanding programs
ranging from generalist medicine to highly specialized practice; and subsequently
to achieve their fullest potential as clinicians, researchers, and public health
workers.
